According to a Steam update from developer Rogue Factor, the fix for now involves dropping all graphics settings and turning off every upscaling feature in the menu. That includes DLSS, XeSS, and FSR.
"Please lower all your graphics settings and deactivate upscaling features such as DLSS, XeSS, FSR, etc. from the main menu before starting," the developers advised. Tom’s Hardware flagged the issue and reported that users are only able to get through the intro by applying this workaround. Once players reach control of the main character Rémi, they are told they can crank the settings back up.
Trouble is, even if you make it past the crash, Hell Is Us demands absurd firepower. According to Germany’s PCGH.de, you’ll need an RTX 4090 just to hit 4K at 30 frames per second. That’s not even for smooth gameplay. The site’s write-up, translated from German, described it plainly: “requires at least an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 for 4K/UHD at 30 frames per second.”
The official spec sheet throws even more weight at the problem. The game recommends an RTX 2080 Ti with 11GB VRAM or an AMD RX 6750 XT with 12GB, plus 32GB of system RAM. It’s yet another slap in the face for anyone still clinging to an 8GB card, and a further sign that modern AAA titles are done pretending those still cut it.
The demo is live now on Steam ahead of the full launch on 4 September 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. By then, hopefully Rogue Factor will have resolved the crashing, or at least admitted that maybe not everyone has a €1,800 graphics card.
