Dutch chipmaker NXP Semiconductors is facing a mess after the collapse this year of a proposed merger with Qualcomm and is hoping that interest from the automotive industry can bail it out.

It looks like China based smartphone manufacturers are taking 5G very seriously. In  recent weeks, Oppo and Xiaomi showed their versions of high-end phones running 5G NR and now Vivo has done the same.

It has been a while since we have seen an update to the wearable platform but although some doubted Qualcomm's dedication to that part of the market, the company obviously did not give up on it, and the new Snapdragon Wear 3100 should not only fix the biggest flaw of previous smartwatches, the battery life, but also bring plenty of other improvements.

This 7nm platform can be paired with Snapdragon X50 5G modem creating the first 5G capable mobile platform for premium tier smartphones and other mobile devices.  

Settles the licensing business practice dispute

Qualcomm has reached a mutual agreement - a settlement with the Taiwan Fair Trade Commission (TFTC) - resolving its investigation of Qualcomm and Qualcomm’s litigation challenging the TFTC’s decision alleging violations of Taiwan’s Fair-Trade Act.
